Congratulations, you're the parent of a new college graduate! That hard earned diploma opens doors to a world of promise and opportunity.
It's also a Wake Up Call!

A FEW OPTIONS
Stay on your Plan: If your son or daughter is currently covered by your health plan they may be able to stay there. Under the new Federal law most health plans issued or renewed after September 23, 2010 must cover dependents until they turn 26. This age limit applies regardless if the dependent is married, living at home, or out of school.
Short Term Medical: If they're lucky and found a job with benefits and only need to wait short time for their employer's plan to begin they could apply for a short term medical plan. As the name implies, these plans are designed to cover short time frames from one to six months after which time they expire.
Buy their own individual plan. Being young and healthy has advantages. Your child could apply for their own individual medical plan from a reputable carrier. A good plan for a younger person can be found for less than $100 per month. There are many benefits to owning a policy that isn't tied to an employer - especially if that employment isn't exactly "permanent".
COBRA: Under the federal law loss of dependent status is a qualifying event for up to 36 months continuation. As stated above, graduating from school or getting married may not be a qualifying event in itself. If your child loses dependent status under your plan you can investigate your COBRA options.
CoverColorado: If your child is not covered by a parent's policy, and can't qualify for an individual plan, you can check out CoverColorado or GettingUsCovered.
